published by the Labor Management Institute. The PSS™ Annual Survey of
Hours© was the first national database originally created for nursing
by Eunice Lawrenz in 1989 to measure direct and total worked hours of
care and nurse to patient ratios. This report was both cited and quoted
in the Institute of Medicine's 2004 report on Patient Safety. The
primary work of the Labor Management Institute is education, research
